Cyxtera — Colocation Can Be Cool
We were tasked with giving people a better way to manage their data center equipment. We ended up with a slick dashboard and a friggin’ sweet product marketing video.

Data centers are complicated. There’s an outrageous amount of connected cables, heating and cooling systems, servers stacked on top of each other and technical jargon that takes weeks to sort-of understand. Even for experts, that makes managing your space inside of the data center complicated, overwhelming & often pretty mundane.
So we spent a bunch of time with the people managing the data centers, went on tours of the facilities and took a deep dive into the colocation industry. We ended up finding a lot of equally mundane and overly technical experiences. We opted for something a little different. We pulled in marketing patterns from the Cyxtera brand, beefed up the colour system and started paring down components so they were more intuitive but surprisingly delightful. Then we started challenging the idea that these dashboards had to be complex. Where could we package products, restructure checkout & expansion flows, showcase the spaces in new ways, and just ultimately make this experience more enjoyable to use.
It was a hit! The new product is still rolling out and has generated a buzz both with Cyxtera customers and internal teams. Ultimately, we were asked to create a marketing vid for the product we designed! We got to work with an amazing animation studio, Batch, and expanded on the mesh patterns to represent some key features of the Cyxtera product.
